چکیده

Variations in clothing alter an individual’s appearance, making the problem of gait identification much more difficult. If the type of clothing differs between the gallery and a probe, certain parts of the silhouettes are likely to change and the ability to discriminate subjects decreases with respect to these parts. A part-based approach, therefore, has the potential of selecting the appropriate parts. This paper proposes a method for part-based gait identification in the light of substantial clothing variations. We divide the human body into eight sections, including four overlapping ones, since the larger parts have a higher discrimination capability, while the smaller parts are more likely to be unaffected by clothing variations. Furthermore, as there are certain clothes that are common to different parts, we present a categorization for items of clothing that groups similar clothes. Next, we exploit the discrimination capability as a matching weight for each part and control the weights adaptively based on the distribution of distances between the probe and all the galleries. The results of the experiments using our large-scale gait dataset with clothing variations show that the proposed method achieves far better performance than other approaches. & 2010 Elsevier Ltd. An Optimized Part Based Gait Recognition using Multi- Objective Particle Swarm Optimization

Gait identification task becomes difficult due to the change of appearance by different cofactors (e.g., shoe, surface, carrying, view, and clothing). Some parts of gait are affected by cofactors and other parts remains unaffected. Most of the gait identification systems consider only most effective parts thereby omitting less effective parts. However some significant features for gait identifi...

Gait Energy Response Function for Clothing-Invariant Gait Recognition

This paper describes a method of clothing-invariant gait recognition by modifying intensity response function of a silhouettebased gait feature. While a silhouette-based representation such as gait energy image (GEI) has been popular in gait recognition community due to its simple yet effective property, it is also well known that such a representation is susceptible to clothes variations since...

Robust view-invariant multiscale gait recognition

The paper proposes a two-phase view-invariant multiscale gait recognition method (VI-MGR) which is robust to variation in clothing and presence of a carried item. In phase 1, VI-MGR uses the entropy of the limb region of a gait energy image (GEI) to determine the matching gallery view of the probe using 2-dimensional principal component analysis and Euclidean distance classifier. In phase 2, th...

Gait recognition based on the golden ratio

Gait is known to be an effective behavioral biometric trait for the identification of individuals. However, clothing has a dramatic influence on the recognition rate. Researchers have attempted to deal with this issue of clothing by segmenting parts of the gait images based on anatomical proportions. However, the clothing proportion is not the same as the anatomical proportion, as clothing is d...

The influence of the illustrated clothing on fear of admission in children aged 3 to 6 years

Introduction: Hospitalization causes children to be afraid, and this can be an important factor in delaying their recovery. Nurse's dress creates non-verbal communication and creates a low stressed environment . Children prefer colorful skirts to formal dresses  . Therefore, considering that nurses' appearance in treatment centers plays an important role in creating a sense of trust among patien...
